A disturbing scene occurred in Tampa on Tuesday night when Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane was cut on the wrist by an opponent’s skate.
Posted at 9:08 p.m.
In a battle for the puck with Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Philippe Myers, Kane lost his footing and ended up on his back at the edge of the boards. As Myers held down the Oilers forward, forward Patrick Maroon came through and his skate blade contacted Kane’s exposed left wrist.
As blood began to spill onto the rink, Kane got to his feet and raced full speed towards his team’s bench, screaming and squeezing his wrist. He left for the locker room afterwards.
According to an update posted by the Oilers on their social media, the forward is “stable” and has been taken to hospital for surgery later tonight.
