The new guidelines will be in effect for all teams on the circuit, following each team’s last game before the all-star break.
The guidelines will be applied in harmony with local health measures, the NHL said.
There are also new mask guidelines, an end to the close contact testing requirement and revised measures around arena gatherings, such as on-ice ceremonies and family spaces.
The NHL cited the drop in the positivity rate since mid-January, in terms of testing for COVID-19.
The NHL has recommended that all of its players receive the booster dose when it becomes available to them.
The new protocol also addresses ways to limit the risk of community transmission.
