In a rare occurrence in the NHL on Tuesday morning, the St. Louis Blues have made hostile offers to defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway of the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers have seven days to match the offer, or those players will join the Blues.

Broberg, 23, has played 81 games for the Oilers over the past three seasons, recording two goals and 11 assists, after being selected in the first round (No. 8 overall) in 2019. The offer made to Broberg is a two-year contract at $4,580,917 per year, the maximum offer that would require a second-round pick as compensation.

Holloway, 22, has appeared in 89 games with the Oilers since entering the league in 2022-23 as a former first-round pick (No. 14 overall) in 2020. He has nine goals and nine assists over those two seasons.

The offer to Holloway is a two-year contract at $2,290,457 per year, the maximum offer that would require a third-round pick as compensation.

Both promising players were part of the Oilers’ recent run to the Stanley Cup Final. They were also attractive targets for hostile offers; for one thing, they are restricted free agents still without contracts, and for another, the Oilers are already stuck under the salary cap.
