NHL | Auston Matthews is the first star of the week

(New York) Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers centers Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid, as well as Florida Panthers left wing Matthew Tkachuk were named the three stars of the last week in the NHL.


Matthews scored a hat trick in two straight games and added two assists to help the Leafs win all three of their games this week and move into third place in the Atlantic Division. He notably established a personal mark with a first game of five points (3-2) in the 9-2 victory at the expense of the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.

In passing, it became the 10e player in NHL history to score six hat tricks in one season.

McDavid had 10 assists in three games, including two Oilers victories. He set a career-high six assists, one short of the NHL record, in an 8-4 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Ultimately, Tkachuk scored three goals and added five assists in three games to help the Panthers extend their winning streak to five and move into first place in the Atlantic.
