In Ukraine, NGOs warn about human trafficking. On the 11 p.m. set of franceinfo, Geneviève Colas, member of the National Consultative Commission for Human Rights, discusses this danger, which particularly concerns orphaned children.
Asked about the danger of human trafficking in Ukraine and the fate of orphaned children, Geneviève Colas, member of the National Consultative Commission for Human Rights, explains that “there were already, before the war, more than 100,000 orphaned children living in orphanages in Ukraine“, but not all of them were without parents.”There is a whole category of social orphans, which are children whose parents could not take care of“, she specifies.
Orphanages are now even fuller because of the conflict. But the adoption of minors is not permitted in a country at war. “It’s probably a good thing that it’s not too easy, because […] the first thing is already to look for the families, in their own interest, and especially not to adopt them too quickly, without knowing if they have distant family“, she explains.
