Eight environmental protection NGOs slammed the door on Monday February 12 afternoon of the Strategic Orientation and Monitoring Committee (COS) of the Ecophyto plan, which takes place at the Ministry of Agriculture, noted the franceinfo journalist on the spot.

These eight NGOs, including Générations Futures, WWF France, the Fondation pour la Nature et l’Homme or the LPO, were to participate in this COS Monday afternoon with the government, elected officials and representatives of farmers, industry , on the future of Ecophyto.

Even before this meeting, the NGOs had warned that the questioning of the Ecophyto plan by the government, after the mobilization of farmers, was a “questioning the very objective of reducing pesticides”. They had planned to read a joint text on site, but according to the franceinfo journalist on site, they did not have time to make this declaration.

A gift to industrial agriculture

“By giving the signal that agriculture can relax its efforts on pesticides, the government has chosen to open Pandora’s box”wrote WWF in a press release after this meeting. “It is a gift to industrial agriculture more than to farmers in their diversity, while the agricultural world said it wanted support, not pesticides”.

This Ecophyto plan, which aims to halve the use of pesticides by 2030 (compared to 2015-2017), was suspended by Gabriel Attal “time to put in place a new indicator” which would replace Nodu, the main French measuring tool.
