Eighteen months after dropping the ‘Redskins’ name, the organization that has called itself the ‘Washington Football Team’ for the past two years has announced the ‘Commanders’ as the team’s new name. .

This name honors the military troops and senior army officials who work in the state of Virginia, where the Commanders are based. This new name was highly anticipated.
In the summer of 2020, the organization had decided to renounce its name of the previous 87 years, since it had been deemed offensive and demeaning to First Nations people.
Owners Daniel and Tanya Snyder, along with team president Jason Wright, introduced the team’s new name, logo and colors at FedEx Field.
