(Houston) Lovie Smith was fired as head coach of the Houston Texans on Sunday night after just one season at the helm of the team. He went 3-13-1 this year.
This is the second time in as many seasons that the Texans have fired their head coach after one season. They had thanked David Culley last January, he who had presented a record of 4-13.
The Texans had the worst record in the NFL for much of the season, but won two of their last three games. They notably signed a win against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon, which cost them the first choice in the next draft.
By virtue of this 32-31 victory for the Texans, it is the Chicaco Bears who will speak first. The formation of Houston will have to settle for the second choice.
Smith was promoted to head coach after spending a season as the team’s defensive coordinator. The 2022 campaign was his 12ecareer as a head coach, after leading the Bears for nine years and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two years.
Smith’s firing gives the Texans a fourth head coach in four years.
