NFL | Teammates with the Chargers, Davis and Ekeler find themselves with the Commanders

Cornerback Michael Davis agreed to a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders on Monday.

He thus reconnects with a former teammate at the Los Angeles Chargers, running back Austin Ekeler.

Aged 29, Davis brings a wealth of experience alongside Quebecer Benjamin St-Juste, who is heading towards a fourth season in the NFL.

Washington is also banking on cornerback Emmanuel Forbes, a first-round pick last year.

Davis appeared in 107 NFL games, including 74 as a starting player.

He made his debut in 2017 as a non-draft player.

“This is the best situation I can be in to improve,” Davis said. I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. »

Ekeler will turn 29 in May. On Monday, he finalized a two-year, $11.43 million deal with the Commanders.

Ekeler led the league in total touchdowns in 2021 and 2022.

He had six touchdowns last season, while sprained ankles limited him to 14 games.

Ekeler will also find Anthony Lynn. Formerly head coach of the Chargers, the latter is now responsible for the Commanders’ running backs.

“This guy is a real guru,” Ekeler said. Just being in the same room with him again will keep me sharp. It will give me the best chance to flourish. »
