(Indianapolis) The Indianapolis Colts have expanded their secondary with a two-year deal with star cornerback Stephon Gilmore, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Friday.

The move came a day after the Colts signed ex-Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Rodney McLeod to a contract. These additions should flesh out their secondary, after she lost two cornerbacks who were starters last campaign.

Star player Xavier Rhodes, 31, is still an unrestricted free agent. Rock Ya-Sin was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in the trade involving Yannick Ngakoue.

Gilmore would join the Colts after being traded from the New England Patriots to the Carolina Panthers last season. The 31-year-old veteran had 16 defensive tackles and two interceptions in nine games last season.

Gilmore was the NFL’s most valuable defensive player in 2019, having had six interceptions and knockdowns 20 — both personal highs — with the Patriots.

The 10-year veteran has 427 defensive tackles and 27 interceptions in 127 career NFL games.
