(Detroit) The Detroit Lions beat the Los Angeles Rams 24-23 on Sunday night to win their first playoff game in 32 years.
The Lions ended a nine-game playoff losing streak, the longest such streak in NFL history. The team’s last victory dates back to January 5, 1992.
This is the first time that the Lions will host two playoff games in the same season, with the Tampa Buccaneers or Philadelphia Eagles being their next opponents next Sunday.
The Rams had a chance to take the lead late in the fourth quarter, but the Lions defense held on.
Jared Goff finished 22 of 27 completions for 277 yards and a two-yard touchdown pass to freshman tight end Sam LaPorta.
LaPorta’s touchdown gave the Lions a 21-10 lead midway through the second quarter.
Goff and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford were part of the same trade between the two teams three years ago.
Stafford completed 25 of 36 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns. Rookie Puka Nacua caught nine balls for 181 yards.
