(Los Angeles) Philadelphia Eagles player Josh Sills was charged with rape and kidnapping on Wednesday, for alleged offenses that occurred in December 2019, the NFL announced.
The Ohio Attorney General’s office said in a statement that Sills “engaged in a sexual act that was not consensual and held the victim against her will.”
The 25-year-old received a court summons for Feb. 16, four days after the Super Bowl was to be played in Glendale, Arizona.
Sills was de facto placed on the Super Bowl bye list by the NFL commissioner following his indictment, and will therefore not be able to face the Kansas City Chiefs with his team on February 12.
This means that “he cannot play, train or travel with the Eagles until the league has reviewed the matter,” the body said.
It’s by no means certain, however, that Sills would have made the Eagles’ Super Bowl roster, as the player has only made one appearance this season, in a win over the Minnesota Cardinals. Arizona.
