He officially becomes the first NFL owner to issue a public statement on the subject.

For several seasons, Snyder’s work has been questioned due to numerous scandals and internal problems. The Washington organization has been the target of criticism for a toxic work environment, in which sexual misconduct by employees and financial inconsistencies have already taken place. An investigation by lawyer Mary Jo White is still ongoing.

Snyder’s firing would be a first. However, there should be 24 owners in favor.

“We have to look at the evidence that is provided to us and we have to take it seriously,” Irsay told The Associated Press on Tuesday. I believe in a good working environment. The NFL has established standards that must be respected and protected. I think that if the owners discuss it, we will manage to find the right solution. I unfortunately believe this is the path we need to take and we need to complete this investigation, but I am concerned about all the revelations that have come to light over the past 20 years regarding this organization. »

White did not provide a timeline for the league to deliver its report, but indications are that it will be completed soon.

Last week, Snyder hired private investigators and boasted he had enough incriminating information about Commissioner Roger Goodell and other owners to bring them down, if he wanted.

The Commanders are defending themselves against the accusations, saying they are “completely false” and that they are at the heart of a “two-year campaign to push for the sale of the team, which will continue to be ineffective.” »
