(Kansas City) The Kansas City Chiefs signed Kareem Hunt to their practice squad on Tuesday.
Hunt therefore returns to the Chiefs, with whom he found fame before off-field problems led to his release.
The Chiefs brought Hunt in for a workout after starting running back Isiah Pacheco injured his right ankle in Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He could be sidelined for the rest of the season.
The Chiefs already have running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the non-football illness list for at least two more games, leaving them short on players at the position heading into a matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
The Chiefs selected Hunt in the third round of the 2017 draft. He went on to lead the NFL with 1,327 rushing yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie.
Hunt returned the following season and appeared in 11 games before a video surfaced of him pushing and kicking a woman, leading to his dismissal from the Chiefs.
Hunt signed with the Cleveland Browns in February 2019, but was ultimately suspended for eight games by the NFL for violating its personal conduct policy.
Hunt spent the last five seasons in Cleveland, rushing for 2,285 yards and five touchdowns.
