NFL | Canadian Theo Johnson drafted by the Giants in the 4th round

(Detroit) Theo Johnson and Giovanni Manu became the second and third Canadian prospects to be drafted in the NFL this year on Saturday.


Johnson was selected in the fourth round, at 107e overall, by the New York Giants.

Penn State University tight end Johnson has played in 45 games over the past four seasons. The 6-foot-6, 260-pound athlete caught 77 passes for 938 yards and 12 touchdowns.

This past season, he set personal highs with 34 receptions, 341 yards and seven touchdowns.

Manu, 6 feet, 8 inches and 350 pounds, was chosen 19 spots down by the Detroit Lions. Originally from Tonga, the tackle grew up in Pitt Meadows and played with the University of British Columbia.

The day before, Ontario offensive lineman Isaiah Adams was drafted in the third round by the Arizona Cardinals.

Adams, Johnson and Manu are also ranked first, second and eighth by the Canadian Football League (CFL) Scouting Bureau. The draft will take place on Tuesday.
