Quebecer Alexis Lafrenière will be left out for the New York Rangers game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.
This was reported on Twitter by journalist Colin Stephenson, who covers the team.
The 21-year-old striker has been going through tougher times lately, which prompted his Rangers head coach, Gerard Gallant, to make the decision.
“I want it to be better,” he told the USA TodayWednesday, after training during which Lafrenière played on the fourth line.
“He had the chance to play with good players and he did well at times, but he lacks consistency,” he added.
Lafrenière, the first overall pick in the 2020 draft, has 5 goals and 17 points in 36 games this season. Its ice time, which stood at 15:41 between October and November, dropped to 13:41 in December.
