New York Giants | Quarterback Daniel Jones gets $160 million for 4 years

(East Rutherford) After days of arduous negotiations that lasted until the deadline to affix a player to the franchise player tag, the New York Giants and quarterback Daniel Jones have signed a new pact.

The Associated Press has learned from a source familiar with the matter that the Giants have signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract. The person requested anonymity as the team has yet to confirm the transaction, which occurred minutes from the 4 p.m. ET deadline.

With Jones signed, the Giants used their tag to make running back Saquon Barkley their franchise player.

Barkley was given the non-exclusive tag, however, which means he can continue to negotiate with other teams, but the Giants can match any offers received. If they decide not to, they will get two first-round picks as compensation.

The sixth overall pick in the 2019 draft, Jones had his best season and led the Giants (9-7-1) to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Under new head coach Brian Daboll, Jones pitched for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns, against five interceptions.

He also brought a new facet to the Giants offense, rushing for 708 yards – a team mark – and seven touchdowns.

Barkley also had his best season since 2018, rushing for 1,312 yards and scoring 10 majors. He also caught 57 passes for 338 yards.
