New York City FC unbeatable at Yankee Stadium

New York City FC defended their fortress with flying colors once again on Sunday, beating the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 at Yankee Stadium.

The “Big Apple” team has a brilliant record of four wins and one draw in five home games this season. However, it is still looking for a first win abroad (0-2-1).

In the duel of the day, the hosts sprang in the 74th minute by threading the needle three times in 14 minutes. Keaton Parks started the nightmare of the “Sharks” by lodging a powerful shot in the top corner.

Moments later, Gabriel Pereira added with a superb curling shot from the penalty area. The weak defensive coverage dedicated to him has also raised the ire of the Earthquakes goalkeeper, JT Marcinkowski.

21-year-old left-back Chris Gloster finally nailed his rivals’ coffin with his first Major League Soccer (MLS) goal.

In front of the New York cage, Sean Johnson managed the shutout by making only three parades.

The Earthquakes occupy the penultimate place of the general classification of the Garber circuit, they who have tasted victory only once in nine meetings.

A draw for the first match at GEODIS Park

Nashville SC inaugurated GEODIS Park by playing their very first match against the Philadelphia Union. He had to settle for a 1-1 draw to score the occasion.

Mikael Uhre, however, came to throw a shower of cold water on the celebrations. The Union striker indeed wrote his name in the history books by being the very first scorer in the new stadium in the 66th minute.

Despite playing against the best defense in Major League Soccer (MLS), the home favorites didn’t give up. They led in possession, at 59.6%, and hit six of their 15 shots.

This perseverance paid off as they got a penalty shot in the 85th minute. Randall Leal took the opportunity to tie the game, much to the delight of Tennessee fans.

With this point, the Union still takes first place in the Eastern Association.
