New Year’s Day: open or closed?

Are the malls open? What about public transport services, banks and libraries? The hours of several establishments will be subject to change for New Year’s Day, Sunday 1er January.


Open

Big-box stores and grocery stores are closing, with the exception of essential businesses like pharmacies, convenience stores and some small grocery stores.

1er and on January 2, the Société de transport de Montréal network operates according to the statutory holiday schedule.

The Biodôme, the Botanical Garden and the Planetarium will welcome young and old from 1 p.m.er January. The hours of other museums vary. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is closed on 1er and January 2, while the Science Center is closed on December 31 and 1er January.

Closed

SAQ stores will be closed on the 1er January. However, they remain open until 5 p.m. on December 31 and will reopen on January 2 at 1 p.m. SQDC branches will also be closed for New Year’s Day.

Banks and cash desks will not be open on Sunday 1er January. Some will remain closed until January 4.

Most arenas, swimming pools, sports centers and libraries will be closed on 1er January. Montreal residents are invited to consult the Ville de Montréal website.

Most municipal offices are closing their doors, as are the city’s ecocentres. Federal service outlets as well as the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) will be closed.
