New Xpeng G6 Set to Compete Internationally with Tesla Model Y

Xpeng, once lesser-known in France, is gaining traction in the electric vehicle sector with its G6 SUV, launched in 2023 as a rival to the Tesla Model Y. The upcoming 2025 model is set for a subtle facelift, introducing features like a new LED light strip and updated design elements. While awaiting confirmation for its European availability, the refreshed G6 boasts significant interior upgrades and enhanced charging capabilities, though it remains ineligible for France’s ecological bonus due to its Chinese production.

Once a relatively unknown brand in France, Xpeng has quickly made a name for itself in the electric vehicle market. The company now offers two models in the region: the spacious G9 SUV and its more compact counterpart, the G6. Launched in 2023, the G6 has positioned itself as a competitor to the Tesla Model Y.

Exciting Updates for 2025

Just two years after its debut and a few months of sales in Europe, the G6 is already set to receive a facelift. This refresh is subtle yet impactful, focusing primarily on the front-end design. The notable changes include a revised LED light strip known as the “Galaxy Light Wing,” the relocation of the Xpeng logo to the hood, and a new pattern for the air intake.

Additionally, a new light indicator for autonomous driving has been introduced. According to reports, this updated version features an impressive 81 new features, though many of these enhancements are quite understated. At the rear, the bumper has been slightly modified, and a small spoiler has been added. A major question on many minds is whether the 2025 Xpeng G6 will make its way to France.

The outlook is positive, as this new model is expected to be marketed internationally, hinting at a potential European launch. Given that the electric SUV is already available in the market, it would be logical for Xpeng to introduce this refreshed version as well. However, the French branch of the company, founded by He Xiaopeng, has yet to respond to our inquiries regarding this matter.

As it stands, there is no official confirmation about its availability in France. Patience will be key as we await further updates, but it seems likely that we will eventually see this model here. The initial deliveries in China are set to commence in early March. Pricing details remain unannounced, but the current model starts at 42,990 euros for the entry-level variant in France.

Significant Enhancements

It’s important to note that the Xpeng G6 does not qualify for the ecological bonus in France due to its production in China, a status that will continue with this updated version. Notably, this refresh has seen 34% of its components replaced, although the overall dimensions remain similar, with the vehicle measuring 4.76 meters in length, 1.92 meters in width, and 1.65 meters in height. The reported wheelbase stands at 2.89 meters.

Inside, the G6 features a new 15.6-inch touchscreen, complemented by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The driver’s seat layout has been revamped, and new upholstery options have been added. Moreover, the SUV is equipped with a redesigned steering wheel and improved ambient lighting. Front passengers will also enjoy massaging, heated, and ventilated seats. However, the performance specifications under the hood remain unchanged.

The updated G6 continues to house a 296-horsepower electric motor, providing fast charging capabilities thanks to its 800-volt architecture. Notably, the charging speed has seen improvements, with the new 5C battery allowing charging from 10 to 80% in just 15 minutes, a decrease from the previous 20 minutes. Furthermore, the AI Turing autonomous driving system has been enhanced for a more intuitive user experience, although we will have to wait to test these features if the facelifted Xpeng G6 arrives in our market.
