In the UK, far-right activists are using violence to demonstrate their hostility to immigration. In Venezuela, the protests have a completely different cause: the fraudulent re-election of the incumbent president, Nicolas Maduro.
Stone throwing and insults punctuated the new violent clashes between far-right activists and law enforcement in the United Kingdom on Saturday, August 3. Tensions have not increased since the murder of three little girls on Monday, near Liverpool. For several days, anti-immigration protesters have been causing chaos. The cause was a rumor that the suspect in the murders was a Muslim asylum seeker. Faced with this violence, residents of several cities are trying to protect mosques. To stop the riots, the courts have given the name of the suspect, who is in fact a 17-year-old British man, born to Rwandan parents.
In the United States, Kamala Harris has been officially inaugurated as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in November. The name of her running mate is expected to be revealed in the coming hours. In Venezuela, opposition leaders had called for massive protests to contest the re-election of outgoing President Nicolas Maduro. The repression has been violent in recent days, resulting in the deaths of 11 people since Monday.
