New generation radars, smaller and easier to integrate into street furniture, will now issue warnings in the event of speeding or burnt out lights. They will be activated in particular in Belfort, from Tuesday January 16.
Until now, the 19 urban radars in the Territoire de Belfort were being tested and were harmless. From Tuesday January 16, five of them will be put into service, without motorists knowing which ones. The boxes do not emit any flash. “It’s not a bad thing but hey, we get cheated all the time”reacts a motorist.
Better integrated into urban furniture
Smaller and more discreet because they are better integrated into street furniture, these new generation radars will penalize speeding in both directions of traffic and crossing red lights. The prefect, Raphaël Sodini, wants to change behavior in the city. In 2022, a third of fatal accidents nationally took place in urban areas. The five radars will be tested for three months. The prefecture will then decide on the extension of the system. Ultimately, other offenses could be punished by the authorities.
