Planning a Taxi Journey? Discover the Updated Fare Structure!
If you’re considering a taxi ride, be prepared for potential fare increases. Taxi fares in France are regulated, and new pricing will take effect starting February 1, 2025. However, drivers have until May 1 to implement these changes, and the taximeter must display a blue letter ‘E’ to indicate the updated rates.
To determine the fare for your ride, it’s essential to understand the capped rates as well as any applicable additional charges. Notably, these extra fees are waived for passengers using a wheelchair. Additionally, some cities offer flat rates for airport transfers, and drivers may opt to provide discounts on the displayed fare.
Fare Adjustments and Increases
One notable change beginning February 1st is a modest increase in typical ride fares, capped at a maximum of +1.71%. This is a significant decrease from the previous year’s increase of +5.40%. Various components of the fare structure are also changing, as highlighted by Capital. For instance, the standard pickup fee has been adjusted to a maximum of 4.48 euros, up from 4.40 euros in 2024. The hourly rate for waiting is now set at 41.76 euros, compared to 41.06 euros last year.
The per-kilometer charge has increased to a maximum of 1.29 euros, up from 1.27 euros in 2024. Certain conditions can lead to additional charges: a night ride can incur up to a 50% increase, while rides requiring a return trip without passengers or those serving areas outside the parking authorization zone can see charges rise by as much as 100%. Similarly, rides on snowy or icy roads may have a 50% surcharge if special equipment is utilized, and peak hour rides may also incur extra fees. The minimum fare remains unchanged at 8 euros for all taxi services.
Understanding Supplement Charges
Interestingly, there will be no increase in the supplement fees that can be applied. Non-Parisian taxis may charge 4 euros for every passenger beyond five and 2 euros for oversized luggage. In contrast, taxis operating in Paris and Orly have a higher supplement of 5.50 euros per additional passenger but do not charge for luggage.
In Guadeloupe, a 4-euro supplement applies per passenger for rides to the Pôle Caraïbes airport and the Grand Port maritime de la Guadeloupe, applicable for groups of five or more.
For immediate reservations, additional charges are as follows: 2 euros in Lyon; 4 euros in Nice, Orly, and Paris; and 3 euros in Cannes, Antibes, and Toulouse, provided the pickup is within the taxi’s designated area. For advance bookings, the supplements are set at 4 euros in Lyon and Nice, 3 euros in Cannes and Antibes, and 7 euros in Toulouse, with variations in other regions.
