Upon their appointment as head of DC studios last October, filmmaker James Gunn (The Suicide Squadthe trilogy Guardians of the Galaxy) and producer Peter Safran had indicated that they intended to relaunch the DC Cinematic Universe (DCEU) on a new basis.
In recent months, they have indicated, among other things, that Henry Cavill will not be back in the role of Superman and that there will be no sequel to Wonder Woman 1984.
On Tuesday, the duo gave a good idea of what the future holds for fans of the many characters in the DC stable. Superman: Legacy, written by Gunn, will mark the beginning of this new era. Scheduled for July 11, 2025, the film will not tell the origins of the last son of Krypton, but rather how he navigates between his extraterrestrial heritage and his Earthly daily life.
The Brave and the Bold is the title of the feature film in which the new Batman will make his debut. His son, Damian Wayne, will play an important role in Grant Morrison’s comic book-inspired story. The co-leaders of DC studios assured that the universe The Batman led by Matt Reeves, in which Robert Pattinson embodies the batman, will continue to unfold in the cinema – The Batman: Part II will launch on October 3, 2025 – and on TV. It’s the same for Joker: Madness for Twoby Todd Phillips, which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, scheduled for October 4, 2024.
Also on the program, Supergirl: Woman of TomorrowSwamp Thing and The Authority films, the series Waller, Lanterns, Gold Booster and Paradise Lost then the animated series Creature Commandos, written entirely by Gunn. He also specified that certain characters will go from animation to live action and vice versa and that they will generally be played by the same actors.
Until then, four DC movies will hit theaters in 2023: Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Gunn clarified that the events of The Flash will allow the DCEU to start fresh. To be seen, therefore, on June 16.
