New roof to pay | The duty

Replacing the roof and technical ring of the Olympic Stadium will cost $870 million, but it’s a safe bet that the bill could approach the billion mark with the usual unforeseen events and inflation. Just as the work to complete the stadium was once paid for by a tax on cigarettes, why not pay the costs this time through a special tax on products sold by the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC)? I will be told that this would encourage the black market in marijuana, but it still remains active and regulars have continued to stock up there despite legalization. I do not believe that regular clients of the SQDC will take the risk of turning to criminal circles to satisfy their needs.
