On September 24, Emmanuelle Béart will appear in the documentary Un silence si boisterous broadcast on M6. In this film co-directed with Anastasia Mikova, the famous 61-year-old French actress sets out to meet three women and a man, all victims of incest in their childhood. She also tells her story, she who has just admitted to having been a victim of incest from the ages of 10 to 14.
This Thursday, September 14, 2023, the actress was invited to the microphone of RTL radio to discuss this famous documentary but also and above all to talk about this still taboo subject which affects nearly one in 10 French people. “We must imagine that incest is power over a weaker person. Incest is an act of domination which involves sex. It is a way of denying, of crushing the smallest , therefore the child. So it’s tight-lipped. It is very, very difficult for a child, who is isolated by the person who is subjecting him to this incestuous sexual violence, isolated and silent most of the time.” she declared.
“I began my life as a woman, my adult life. I chose this profession of language and body. I had children, I got married and so somewhere, I ran very far , very quickly. And then I fell, I fell frequently. My sleepless nights, sleeping pills, things invaded my daily life and my life. And I told myself that I absolutely had to find the right tool to talk about that.” she added.
Emmanuelle Béart reveals that she wanted to die
If Emmanuelle Béart had already mentioned several years ago a “secret” linked to her childhood, she explains today that she confided in a close friend: “I’m talking to my grandmother about it. I’m not sure she understands, but instinctively, she says to herself that I need to talk to my parents and that I need to leave there. where I am. […] I told him the truth. I told him exactly what had happened for four years. I gave details.”
“We must try to understand what these children are going through physically and psychologically, children who will be adults in danger. Who will be survivors. I will tell you one thing, having wanted to die for a long time, I think that now I really have the right to want to live” she then responds to Amandine Begeot who recalls that in a class of 30 students, 3 of them could certainly be victims of incest.

Finally, Emmanuelle Béart deplores the lack of action by the justice system and explains that she did not file a complaint in particular because she knows “that 70% of complaints go unanswered”. Justice today does not seem to measure up to what is happening in our country. […] It is clear that the judicial system, for the moment, does not seem to protect our children because it is too long, because it is cluttered, because undoubtedly, there is no enough people who are on these files” she concluded.
