New faces, and old ones. The new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak appointed the members of his government on Tuesday, October 25, a few hours after officially taking office. Nominations have fallen by the wayside on the Prime Minister’s Twitter account late Tuesday afternoon.

Before these announcements, the head of government had warned of “difficult decisions” to come to fix the “errors” committed under Liz Truss, forced to resign after a financial storm caused by her economic program. “I will place economic stability and confidence at heart of the program of this government”said the leader of the Conservative Party, which still keeps several figures of the former government.

No change to Interior and Security

Rishi Sunak chose to keep Suella Braverman, 42, a eurosceptic and figure of the hard right, to take care of internal affairs. The latter had publicly expressed her disagreement with Liz Truss during the last days of the previous government, before resigning on October 19. “I am honored to have been appointed by the Prime Minister, she reacted on Twitter. We will work hard to protect our borders, ensure our security and keep our streets safe.”

Among the survivors of the previous cabinet are the Minister of State Tom Tugendhat, who remains in charge of Security, but also Lord Nicholas True, who remains at the head of the House of Lords, or MP Alister Jack, in charge of Scotland. Three former ministers of Liz Truss have been transferred within the government. They are Grant Shapps (Business and Energy), Thérèse Coffey (Environment) and Nadhim Zahawi (Minister without portolio). The other posts were handed over to Conservative Party figures, including valuable allies of Rishi Sunak, such as Dominic Raab, appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice.
