New leak on the International Space Station, safe for the crew

The Russian space agency Roscosmos announced on Monday October 9 that “The Nauka module of the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) suffered a coolant leak”the third such incident in less than a year. “Nothing threatens the crew and the station, she assured on Telegram. The main thermal control circuit of the module operates normally and ensures comfortable conditions in the living area of ​​the module.”

Seven people are currently on board the ISS: three Russians, two Americans, a Dane and a Japanese. On Monday, a control center operator on Earth asked part of the crew to go into the Cupola, an observation dome allowing astronauts to see outside. “We see snowflakes outside”he told them, asking that they seek to confirm “the point of origin”.

“The crew on board was never in danger”, NASA later said, confirming that the leak was indeed coming from the emergency heater. The primary cooling circuit is working, “without impact on the crew or operations” of the International Space Station, added the American agency.
