New Jersey Devils | A promotion for general manager Tom Fitzgerald

(Newark) The New Jersey Devils granted a multi-year contract extension to their general manager Tom Fitzgerald on Tuesday, in addition to offering him the title of president of hockey operations for the organization.

The Devils are one of the most improved teams in the NHL since Fitzgerald replaced Ray Shero on an interim basis in January 2020.

Fitzgerald was named full-time general manager the following summer and he led numerous drafts that landed the Devils prospects such as Luke Hughes, Dawson Mercer and Simon Nemec, among others.

The Devils made the playoffs and unexpectedly reached the second round last season, while in the midst of a rebuilding process.

Fitzgerald is the second member of management to be recognized for the team’s success, following head coach Lindy Ruff.
