Covid-19 contaminations are on the rise in France. On the Franceinfo 23h set on Wednesday June 22, journalist Chloé Barbaux explains that this is linked to the Omicron BA.5 sub-variant. From now on “Majority in France, it is responsible for more than one contamination out of two. BA.4 and BA.5 are both extremely contagious because they escape the immune defenses that we have acquired during our vaccinations or during of our infections”she deciphers.

Chloé Barbaux indicates that after “a month and a half, two months of sharp decline, the number of positive cases for Covid-19 is slowly increasing again. We are at the start of a new wave: 50,000 new positive cases per day, 45% more than last week “. She explains, however, that the increase is “much lighter” in hospitalizations. Regarding the profile of patients hospitalized due to Covid, “eight out of ten are over 60”, underlines the journalist. The government has planned to accelerate the vaccination campaign for the fourth dose. “Those eligible are the over 60s and the immunocompromised but so far only one in four eligible people have received their fourth dose of the vaccine”she concludes.
