A smaller IKEA store, where customers will have to show up by appointment not to buy meatballs or a shelf, but rather to plan a kitchen or bathroom project. These are the services that will be offered at the IKEA planning center which will open its doors next summer in Boisbriand. This is the first concept of its kind in the country.

Other centers will emerge over the next few years in the greater Montreal area. “Of course we have expansion projects,” confirmed Nathalie Howison, communications and interior design manager at IKEA Canada, in an interview. However, it is currently impossible to know where the future locations will be.
The objective of this new concept: to support consumers in large-scale projects. In this 887 square meter store, no less than 29 stage displays will be set up to inspire people.
“This is not a place where the customer can go out with candles or decorative objects, however warns Mme Howison. There are no take-out items. It’s really to help plan complex purchases. »
Before going there, future buyers must have made an appointment online where they will have clearly determined their needs: complete renovation of the house, changes in the kitchen or bathroom, etc.
At the center, they will be supported by an advisor who will help them reserve their items. Purchases can then be delivered directly to the consumer.
“Since the start of the pandemic, more than 60% of Canadians have made modifications to their homes to meet new needs and fulfill their dreams,” said Eri Mathy, National Director of Business Development and transformation at IKEA Canada, in a press release. “Home life has never been more important. The IKEA Planning Center is just one of the many ways we are transforming our business to offer new touchpoints and services to customers to meet their needs and deliver affordable and relevant home furnishings. »
Nearly thirty centers are currently in operation around the world, notably in Moscow, Copenhagen, Berlin, London and New York.
