New for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra

General Motors’ big work pickups, the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, are getting some major upgrades for the 2024 model year, as we’ve already covered. However, the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 are also entitled to some changes.

First, the Duramax 3-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder, which has been revised and made more efficient for 2023, will be available with the fearsome Silverado ZR2. It will also be included as standard in the equally capable off-road Sierra 1500 AT4X.

This engine, remember, is teamed with a 10-speed automatic transmission and now develops 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque.

For its part, the turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine will now carry the name TurboMax. Offered in several entry-level versions of the Silverado and Sierra, it generates 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, enough to tow up to 9,500 lbs. However, as our tests have shown, its energy efficiency is not really better than that of a V6.

New body colors and wheel choices are added to the menu for 2024, an active exhaust is available with the 6.2-liter V8 and more trims will offer power retractable side steps.

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 will go on sale this summer. Slight price increases are to be expected.

As far as GM’s electric pickups go, the 2024 Silverado EV is expected to hit shelves this fall in limited numbers. Deliveries to us will begin more in the spring of 2024. For the GMC Sierra EV, Canadians will be deprived of the 2024 model year and will have to wait until the 2025 model year.
