A future government of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) would ask Hydro-Québec to begin the studies necessary for the construction of new electricity production facilities, including dams.
It is undeniable that we will have to add significant new electricity production capacities in the coming decades, affirmed the chief caquiste François Legault in front of business people in Bécancour.
Mr. Legault wants the state-owned company to launch its studies as soon as possible; designing and building a dam can take up to 15 years, he pointed out.
If Hydro-Québec comes to the conclusion that the construction of new dams is necessary, this will have to be done in partnership with the Aboriginal communities concerned, added the outgoing Prime Minister.
In addition, Mr. Legault declared that he would ask Hydro-Québec to proceed with the acquisition of electricity and the construction of wind farms with a total capacity of 3,000 megawatts for short-term needs.
It also proposes to triple the number of level 2 charging stations, and to double the number of fast charging stations on the territory for owners of electric vehicles.
Finally, to continue the deployment of the battery sector in Quebec, a CAQ government would create an integrated Center for electric batteries in Mauricie.
