Antibes: new death of an orca at Marineland

(France 2)

Five months after the death of Moana, a new orca, Inouk, died at Marineland in Antibes, in the Alpes-Maritimes, the marine zoo announced Thursday March 28.

Marineland has lost one of its attractions. The marine mammal Inouk died in its pool in Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes). “This is terrible news that affects animal caretakers, and all the Marineland teams who saw Inouk born 25 years ago”, explains, in a press release, the marine park, Thursday March 28. Another orca had already died five months ago.

“People don’t want to see that anymore.”

From 2026, cetacean shows will be banned. The park has already prepared for a transfer of the orcas. The matter was taken to court and their trip was ultimately canceled. The orca show was supposed to resume, but was postponed. “People don’t want to see that anymore. They know that orcas are extremely evolved animals. They are giants in small pools who are bored all day long”, specifies Muriel Arnal, president of the One Voice association. The association will file a complaint against Marineland. A legal expertise is still underway to assess the state of health of its marine mammals.
