If we happen to feel an urge to push the ditty at work, it is better to abstain. Especially if we work for the Auchan store located in Louvroil, located in the Nord department in France. Indeed, our colleagues from The voice of the North informed us, this Monday, June 5, that an employee of the sign had just been laid off for having sang too loudly on the shelves of the store. The employee is “part of the furniture” and has worked for the brand for 20 years. In his 20-year career, he has always had the habit of singing when he takes up his post at 5 a.m., as our colleagues note.
Everything that plays on the store’s radio comes out of his mouth… but not well enough, or much too loudly, for an Auchan spokesperson: “He sings very loudly, so loudly that his colleagues complain. Some have to put earplugs on the shelves”. In fact, the management would have warned the employee several times for two years without this bearing fruit. It was on May 22, by mail, that he learned that he had been laid off for a day.

An inadmissible layoff for the unions
Eric Dronsart, CFDT delegate from Auchan Louvroil finds the sanction unacceptable. “Working in mass distribution is not always easy. After a complicated covid period, the only way to express yourself is to sing, to mess around with colleagues”he assured before cursing: “This colleague used to sing, maybe a little loud but not to the point of being punished for such acts, we are in another world.”
Éric Dronsart does not stop there and laments: “We are human beings, if it bothers someone, it is enough for the person to say so, but frankly to go through procedures and layoffs, you realize. I am flabbergasted. We are not going to put someone outside because he sings too loudly, there are other methods.”
How did Michel Sardou end up in Auchan Louvroil?
Faced with this situation, the CFDT and the CGT called for demonstrations “in song” on the shelves of the store to support their colleague. An action that was indeed carried out this Tuesday, June 6. A hundred employees gathered on the shelves of the Auchan store to support their colleague. All to a tune by Michel Sardou with its title “Singing”, just behind the checkouts and under the executive windows. Not sure management likes it.
