New violence erupted in several cities in France, on the night of Wednesday June 28 to Thursday June 29, in reaction to the death of Nahel. This 17-year-old motorist was killed by a police officer on Tuesday in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine), due to a refusal to comply. Tensions took place in several municipalities of Ile-de-France, Wednesday evening, as well as in Villeurbanne or Toulouse. The police carried out 150 arrests throughout the country, according to a report by the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, on Twitter. Follow our live.

Gérald Darmanin denounces “unbearable violence”. The Minister of the Interior hasbrought her “support for the police, gendarmes and firefighters who face up courageously” to the violence that occurred all over France. He lamented “a night of unbearable violence against symbols of the Republic”evoking “town halls, schools and police stations set on fire or attacked”.

Police custody extended. The 38-year-old policeman suspected of the fatal shooting was questioned by the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) as part of an investigation into intentional homicide opened by the Nanterre prosecutor’s office. His police custody was extended on Wednesday, in “the prospect of an opening of judicial information envisaged” Thursday, according to the prosecution.

A white march on Thursday. Nahel’s mother called in a video for a white march Thursday at 2 p.m., in front of the Hauts-de-Seine prefecture, very close to the scene of the fatal shooting. She expressed her “revolt for [son] son”.
