The provincial government and the Nurses Association of New Brunswick say spots have been set aside for graduate nurses who prefer to take the Quebec exam.

Health Minister Bruce Fitch said in a statement released Wednesday that this new path to certification will allow the province to improve its recruitment and retain more nurses in its network.

Local Government Minister Daniel Allain also believes that this new simplified path for nurses who pass the Quebec entrance exam could help combat the labor shortage.

Also according to the government press release, the nurses’ association indicates that it has added resources to its web portal to guide nurses who wish to take the Quebec exam while wishing to obtain a license to practice in New Brunswick.

French-speaking nurses in New Brunswick already preferred to take the Quebec exam and they could obtain a license to practice in their province, but only after a rather cumbersome administrative procedure.

The government ensures that, from now on, the administrative procedure will be simplified.
