New Bob Marley film tops North American box office

(Washington) The legend of reggae told on the big screen in Bob Marley: One Love took the lead at the North American box office this weekend, with $27.7 million collected, according to estimates on Sunday from specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.


“It’s an excellent start for a musical biopic,” notes analyst David Gross, adding that the film is successful in theaters despite poor reviews.

Jamaican singer Bob Marley, a dazzling success who died at the age of 36 in 1981, is played by British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, known for his role as Malcolm One Night in Miami.

Behind the melody of Could You Be Loved hides another freshly released film, this time about superheroes, the Marvel Madame Web.

The film, however, had a disappointing start, according to analysts, with 15.1 million in revenue for a production cost of 80 million dollars.

For this fourth Sony film in the Spider-Man universe, actress Dakota Johnson plays an ambulance driver with clairvoyant gifts.

The spy comedy Argyleco-produced by Apple and distributed by Universal, which tells the misadventures of an author of successful spy thrillers, completes the podium with 4.7 million garnered after two weekends in the lead.

The animated film Migrationfourth, gleans 3.7 million, ahead of the first three episodes of season 4 of the successful series on the life of Jesus Christ, The Chosenwith 3.4 million.
