After the riots that hit France three weeks ago, many traders have still not been compensated by their insurance. Tuesday, July 18, the government announced new aid.
Nearly three weeks after the riots, a glasses shop in Cergy (Val-d’Oise) is still devastated. The store was set on fire and 1,500 pairs of glasses were stolen, amounting to 150,000 euros in losses. To reopen, it would take ten weeks of work, but the manager has no news from his insurance. “What could be done in addition is to put a second press to have something concrete“, estimates Nicolas Adam, manager of the Optics of the clock.
Aid paid within 10 days
On Tuesday July 18, the government announced additional aid for vandalized independent businesses. From the first day of closure, the aid will reach 3,000 euros. For 14 days, it will reach 5,000 euros and beyond 15 days, 6,000 euros. A non-refundable amount, exempt from social charges and paid within 10 days. At the end of the street, a brewery also paid the price of the rioters. The manager should receive state aid. An insufficient first step in his eyes. He will have to buy a coffee machine, televisions and bottles of alcohol, then bail out his coffers, targeted by looters. Independent traders have until August 31 to apply for this aid from the state.
