Netflix wants to transform a former military complex in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, into one of the most ambitious audiovisual production centers in the world, several American media reported on Wednesday.
The streaming platform plans to invest some US$900 million to buy 289 acres of land and build state-of-the-art production facilities there, including twelve recording studios. Authorities in Fort Monmouth are expected to give the green light to the project on Wednesday evening.
Rajiv Dalal, director of content and studios at Netflix, told The Hollywood Reporter that the broadcaster had settled on Fort Monmouth because of the expanse of the land, the large metropolitan areas nearby and the “talented” workforce. The horror series Army in the Dead was shot in New Jersey.
In North America, Netflix has production studios in Albuquerque, New York, and Toronto, among other places.
