This is the story of Néo, a cat who had disappeared for almost ten years, in Maubert-Fontaine in the Ardennes. Ophélie, his mistress, testifies in the newspaper the Ardennes, Monday September 11. She talks about her loss, an event “dramatic” in his life, and his reunion with the animal.

A few days ago, the president of a cat protection association, the Les Moustaches association, heard her phone ringing late at night. “I usually don’t answer, but something made me do it.”, says Carole, the president of the association. On the line, the nurse from a clinic in Revin, which is about twenty kilometers from the place of disappearance, has just come across the cat and she is worried, wondering if it is not hurt. The next morning, Carole comes to pick up the animal from the clinic, and discovers the cat Néo, who has been missing since 2013. She warns the mistress, Ophélie, and although he has become an old cat, she immediately recognizes him.

The importance of identifying animals

All this time the cat was not very far away, about twenty kilometers from his home. There in Revin, residents who did not know he was wanted fed him for a few years before he left for the city center where he got by.

The vet found him in exceptionally good shape for a cat who had been on the streets for so long. He therefore found his mistress, who now lives in Charleville-Mézières. According to her, he hasn’t changed, he’s still the same, good with children: a good friend. As for Carole, the president of the Les Moustaches association, she takes advantage of this story to recall the importance of identifying cats, which makes it easy to find their owners. Sterilization would also increase life expectancy by five to six years, when done early enough.
