Nelson Monfort has been a key figure in France Télévisions and television for over thirty years. The 69-year-old sports journalist could have made a career in finance, then journalism finally took over. And given his immense career, he was not wrong!
But the father of Isaure and Victoria could have chosen a completely different career, that of singer. Indeed, when he was young, Nelson Monfort had founded the group Hand in which he was the singer. “We were five like the five fingers of the hand”, confided the sports journalist in Sunday in the countryside this Sunday, November 13 on France 2. In front of Bérengère Krief and Slimane also invited to Frédéric Lopez’s show, Nelson Monfort was surprised to see a snapshot of him as a teenager in a tank top and in the position of a singer. And it has hardly changed! “I would have liked the song enormously, he admitted a little embarrassed. We had in my repertoire a few songs of my own that I never dared to release.” Moreover, speaking of music, Nelson Monfort revealed a funny anecdote to our colleagues from West France last May, he was in the same boarding school as Michel Sardou in the college of Montcel in Jouy-en-Josas in the Paris region. “The same Michel Sardou who remembers the names of our teachers!”, he revealed.
Working in finance was a way of honoring my father’s profession
If Michel Sardou really broke into music, it is an understatement to say, Nelson Monfort, meanwhile, finally put his passion for music aside to follow a law degree at Sciences Po Paris. He then went into exile in the United States to work in finance, without much enthusiasm. “Working in finance was a way of paying homage to my father’s profession. Except that I had seen that this profession was not made for me”, he confided.
