Negotiations in the public sector | Little progress for the two major civil servant unions

(Montreal) The two major civil servant unions in Quebec, which have still not renewed their collective agreements, reported little progress on Friday since the resumption of negotiations after the holiday adjournment.

Their negotiations had been put aside during the holidays, since priority had been given to the health and education unions. Discussions resumed earlier this week.

The Union of Government Professionals of Quebec (SPGQ) said Friday it was returning “empty-handed” after its meeting last Wednesday.

He reports that the Treasury Board made him “dangle” the salary increases of 17.4% over five years that the inter-union common front obtained, but without making a formal deposit at the SPGQ table.

The Quebec Public and Parapublic Service Union (SFPQ), for its part, suggests that it is sectoral issues that pose a problem.

The main requests of the SFPQ, in fact, relate to teleworking and the recognition of experience to compensate for the diploma. And the parties do not agree on this.

Nevertheless, negotiations must continue for these two large independent unions of civil servants. The SPGQ has 25,000 members in the public service and the SFPQ has 30,000 who are affected by this negotiation.
