(Montreal) It is the turn of the unions representing 12,000 workers in CPEs unionized with the CSN to affirm that they are “a thousand miles away from reaching an agreement” with Quebec regarding the renewal of their collective agreements.
These unions attached to the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux, affiliated with the CSN, are however not at the same level of advancement as those of the CSQ, where members in the Early Childhood Centres have already approved by 85% a mandate for a “progressive strike” to be exercised at the appropriate time.
In an interview on Tuesday, the representative of the CPE sector at the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux, Stéphanie Vachon, deplored the fact that negotiations with the Ministry of Families, the Treasury Board and the CPE associations are “progressing very slowly.”
“We see more of an urgent need to resolve this. I don’t feel that there is the same urgency to resolve this on the employers’ side,” said Mr.me Vachon.
For the moment, the means of pressure are light: t-shirts, scarves and posters. But “we are going to consult our unions to possibly proceed with heavier means of pressure,” she warns.
A body is to meet on September 30 and 1er October to consider the issue of heavier pressure tactics and, depending on what is decided there, there will then be consultation with members, explained Mr.me Vachon.
