“Negotiations continue” between the FAE and the government

There will likely be no agreement between the FAE and the Quebec government as a Christmas present on Sunday evening. The union which brings together 66,000 people announced that “negotiations continue”.

“Many of you are asking us about the latest news. Negotiations continue between the FAE and the government, the union posted on its Facebook page shortly after 7 p.m. We will get back to you with details as soon as possible.”

The Autonomous Education Federation has been on strike since November 23. Its members, without strike funds, have therefore been without pay for more than a month.

Friday, the Federation of Education Unions (FSE-CSQ) and the Provincial Association of Teachers of Quebec (APEQ) endorsed a proposed regulation made by the employer side.

The same, the office of the President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, declared that it had initiated a phase of intensive negotiations with the FAE, in the hope of arriving at a settlement proposal before Christmas.

“We have always had the objective of having an agreement before the holidays, but we will not sign a discounted agreement,” said the president of the FAE, Mélanie Hubert, in an interview with Radio-Canada on Saturday.

At the end of the week, several advances were made at the sectoral tables, while health and education unions announced that they had reached tentative agreements in principle on their working conditions.
