Guest of “8:30 am franceinfo” Sunday February 26, he answers questions from Julie Marie-Leconte and Jules De Kiss.

Inflation and mass distribution: distributors “take advantage of their situation”

“Distributors are extremely powerful because there are far fewer of them in mass consumption“, laments Frédéric Descrozaille, while Emmanuel Macron has already asked, on Saturday February 25, hypermarkets and supermarkets to “to make efforts on their margin” to limit inflation. “You have one buyer for many suppliers”continues the deputy, who ensures that the large distribution “take advantage of their situation”. For the MP of the majority, “we must not be impressed by the speech of the distributors” who brandish the risk of inflation, so as not to cut back on their margins. In particular, he points the finger at Michel-Edouard Leclerc, who “love to scare” according to him.

“This [que Michel-Edouard Leclerc] Tell me, it’s regularly false […] he needs to stop pretending he’s speaking on behalf of the nation.”

According to Frédéric Descrozaille, the first contracts signed between suppliers and distributors point to a price increase “a few percent”. “I don’t fear wall inflation”he assures.

Trade negotiations: both parties must remain “free” in the event of failure

The Renaissance MP for Val-de-Marne has tabled a bill to “adapting the balance of power” between suppliers and retailers. The proposal was approved at first reading by the National Assembly in mid-February. Frédéric Descrozaille clarified on franceinfo the outlines of the text. The main measure plans to no longer oblige suppliers to continue to supply distributors in the event of failure of price negotiations. Currently, manufacturers must continue their deliveries, at a price that does not suit them. “The idea is that both parties remain free”specifies Frédéric Descrozaille. “These manufacturers must be able to invest in decarbonization and increase wages, even if it means feeding the ‘wage-price’ loop”and therefore inflation, says the MP.

The bill also includes a measure to regulate promotions. “The law will mean that there will be fewer aggressive promotions”specifies Frédéric Descrozaille. “There will still be promotions, but they will be more distributed”he reassures.

Anti-inflation basket: we need “specifications” imposed on distributors

Discussions on the anti-inflation basket have still not reached the government. Distributors must make proposals “by mid-March”. For the deputy of Val-de-Marne, we risk finding ourselves “with first price products and imported products”. He pleads to set up “specification” to propose “a healthy food basket”.
