The White House announced on Tuesday June 18 the implementation of measures allowing the regularization of hundreds of thousands of people. A beneficial decision for Nebraska (United States), in search of labor, particularly in the automobile sector.
In the state of Nebraska (United States), immense fields of wheat saturate the landscape. A rural territory to the conservative electorate, in the midst of which a few factories stand. Among the latter, that of the Japanese multinational Kawasaki. The activity of the gigantic warehouse located in Lincoln relies in particular on the work of foreign labor. “Immigrant workers represent 30% of the workforce. Without them, we would be forced to stop work and refuse contracts”explains the president of the factory, Mike Boyle.
Ramiro Avalos is one of these workers. Originally from Mexico, this man fled the country, with his wife and children, to occupy the position of quality inspector at the Kawasaki factory. “We liked the living environment in Lincoln”, he said. English courses are also provided for foreigners. Employers want to continue to attract these immigrant workers to overcome structural problems. “We have between 50,000 and 80,000 jobs to fill. Nebraska is experiencing a decline in the birth rate”deplores Bryan Slone, president of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
