One of the world’s leading providers of (hyperscale) data centers dedicated to cloud computing and big data processing, Vantage continues to expand its Pointe-Claire (QC4) campus with a third site totaling 21 MW and 8,800 square meters (94,000 square feet), which is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2022. When complete, this facility will provide customers with a capacity of 48 MW.

The official announcement was the subject of a conference Thursday afternoon in Quebec in the presence of the provincial minister Geneviève Guilbault.

“Our investment and expansion into the province of Quebec cements Vantage Data Centers’ position as the largest provider of hyperscale digital infrastructure in Canada,” said Maxime Guévin, vice president and general manager of operations, in a statement. Canadian Vantage.

Quebec is an ideal location for data centers due to green and affordable energy, the quality of our fiber optic network, our cool climate and a business-friendly environment.

Vantage also announces the acquisition of new land in Montreal, near Dorval Airport (QC6), located on land in Pointe-Claire. The construction of a data center has already begun. The opening of the first phase is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022.

In Quebec, Vantage acquired an additional 32,000 square meters (350,000 square feet) of land allowing the expansion of the existing site. The development of the third center in Quebec is partly financed by Société Générale, which offers financing linked to sustainable development indices. This new facility has been approved for a “green loan,” a first for Vantage due to its environmentally advantageous characteristics of its Quebec facilities.

Nearly 2 billion in investments since 2019

Eventually, Vantage will eventually have four sites totaling a capacity of 143 MW with a total investment of 1.7 billion.

“The digital world we live in generates more and more data that needs to be stored. This reinvestment by Vantage proves once again that Quebec’s renewable energy makes it possible to respond responsibly to this increase. We are therefore proud to support the players who contribute to the positioning of our metropolis in the field of technological innovations,” said Stéphane Paquet, President and CEO, Montréal International, in the same press release.

Absent from Quebec before 2019, the American company has since purchased six sites: those of 4Degrés in Quebec and in the Technoparc, two in Pointe-Claire, and, for subsequent expansion phases, Baie-D’Urfé and Saint- Bruno-de-Montarville, on the South Shore.

Vantage Data Centers provides the physical environment for IT server operators. It provides its customers with power at all times, the physical security of the premises and the control of air quality. It operates in six markets in North America and six markets in Europe.
