Bison Futé had warned: doing the Ascension Bridge involves taking the road of patience. According to the organization, which classified the day of Sunday May 21 as black in the direction of returns, the peak of cumulative traffic jams passed at 4.30 p.m., with 926.9 km of traffic jams recorded throughout mainland France. In 2022, this peak was recorded at 6 p.m., with more than 1,000 km of accumulated traffic jams.

The most congested axes, Sunday at the end of the afternoon, are the A10, at the level of Vienne, with more than 111 km; the A7, in the Bouches-du-Rhône (84.6 km of traffic jams) and the A75, in the Aveyron (79.5 km).

All the main axes of the country are concerned

“Traffic will be extremely difficult”, warned Bison Futé in his forecast. “In general, returns to large cities will generate traffic jams and slowdowns on all the country’s main roads. The greatest difficulties are expected on the A6, A7, A9, A10, ‘A11, the A13 and on the N165 (…) until very late in the evening, particularly in Ile-de-France.”

On the roads that connect the west of France to Ile-de-France, the organization advises to avoid the A13 between Caen and Rouen until 6 p.m., and the A11 between Le Mans and Paris until ‘at 20 hours. On the A10, you will be in slow motion between Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines and Paris until midnight, but also until 6 p.m. near Orléans and until 7 p.m. between Saintes and Tours.

From the Mediterranean to Ile-de-France, the A7 is in red until midnight on the portion that connects Orange to Lyon, while the A9 will be congested until 10 p.m. between Montpellier and Orange. Finally, it will be necessary to avoid the A51 between Narbonne and Toulouse from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., as well as the Mont-Blanc tunnel, which connects Italy to France, until 10 p.m.
