“A magnificent telethon that erases the disappointments of 2020”, greets the director general of the French Association against myopathies (AFM), Christian Cottet, after the collection this weekend of nearly 74 million euros in pledges, in order to improve the support of children and research around rare diseases.
With this sum, “we find the levels of the telethon 2019”, welcomes the director of the Afm-Telethon, who recognizes that “The records were in the years 2002 to 2006 when the Telethon was above 100 million euros, for a few years we have been more around 90 million euros”. A decrease in donations due to multiples “economic difficulties” French people in recent years according to him as more recently in the health crisis.
“This alchemy between patients, the association, researchers and donors has never been lost. The results are there”, underlines Christian Cottet, who recalls that three quarters of the budgets of the Généthon laboratory come from donations. Since 1987, 2 billion 300 million euros have been invested in research as in aid to families, thanks to the generosity of the French, according to him.
73 622 019 €! Thank you. Our fight can continue.
A counter as strong as the generosity of the public, as the energy felt on the thousands of events that took place throughout France, and as powerful as the struggle of families and the determination of researchers pic.twitter.com/EEupre8EPq
